Incredible Historic British Compensation Certificate

Exceptionally rare and important piece of history regarding the abolition of the slave trade ~ a form for compensation of plantation owner John Alleyne Beckles of Barbados. A rare survivor, I could only locate two other examples of this type of document, one in the Barbados Museum and the other in the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool.
Mr. Beckles was awarded £3050 15s 8d for his 137 slaves.
More information can be found on the UCL's Legacies of British Slavery website:

John Alleyne Beckles was one of the major plantation owners at the time; this is a very rare opportunity to acquire a significant item as it was the compensation of these plantation owners that really helped bring an end to institutionalized slavery at that particular moment.
Overall good condition, on paper watermarked with the image of 'Britannia'.
$5000
